Welcome Back To 2020!

Welcome to 2020!

Welcome back to all our English Language Learners and a very special welcome to all our new families that have joined Forrest Hill School this year. 

This year Miss Geminiano (mgeminiano@forresthill.school.nz) and Mrs Fitzgerald (nfitzgerald@forresthill.school.nz) will be sharing the role as ESOL teacher.  If you need to contact us please email.  Thanks!

This term we are starting off our learning by sharing information about our own countries and cultures and making Ko Au Wai Posters about our country and New Zealand.

Fruit Jelly Cups

The Year 3's did instructional writing this term and made their own fruit jelly cups.  The children looked at each stage of the process and had lots of discussion about what was happening.  All of the children enjoyed making their different coloured fruit jelly's.

Baking Chocolate Muffins

At the end of Term 2 the year 4, 5 and 6's decided to make chocolate muffins.  The children focused on instructional writing and working together.  They had to also ice the muffins and decorate them.  All of the children enjoyed eating their own chocolate muffin!

Science experiments

This week our Year 3 and Year 5/6 ESOL students have been focusing on instructional writing. We have been doing science experiments and then writing about it afterwards. Check out the photos below of the science experiment we did yesterday, making our very own lava lamp. The students had a lot of fun making them, learning all of the new vocabulary and the science behind the experiment. They all wrote fantastic pieces of writing, explaining the steps that they took to make their own.

Making our own delicious, healthy ice blocks!

Year 4-6 ESOL students have been focusing on instructional writing this week. The perfect way to make the most of this beautiful weather was to make our own delicious fruity ice blocks. The students created their own unique flavours and they had a blast doing it.

Christmas fun!

End of year Christmas activities!

What a great year we have had! I'm so incredibly proud of all of the ESOL students, they have worked so hard this year and they have made excellent progress with their listening, speaking and writing. It's great to see how much their confidence has grown with speaking English. 

We have had a fun last week! We had a lot of fun putting up Christmas decorations, making Christmas cookies, making our own ice cream, making Christmas crackers and lots more! We especially loved the Christmas family BBQ where we could spend time with all of the families and share our end of year reflections.
